“An Introduction to Beekeeping” by Peter Gonze and Debbie Mattie
The honeybee is an amazing creature and – except for the drones – the ultimate workaholic. Did you know that it takes 12 bees their entire lives (about 5 weeks) to make a teaspoon of honey. A native of Europe, Asia and Africa this insect lives in a complex caste society composed of thousands of bustling individuals. This presentation will provide a little background on bees, the history of beekeeping and information about what goes into keeping honeybees. Refreshments will be served.

“The Great Solar Eclipse and Other Astronomical Oddities” by Darryl Speicher
Darryl will share the national excitement that surrounded the 2024 solar eclipse that occurred on April 8, 2020. As part of his program he will discuss what causes an eclipse and other astronomical phenomenon that fill the firmament with stranger and interesting visions. Refreshments will be served.

"Benefits of Forest Bathing"
Join Association of Nature and Forest Therapy guide Josh Heath for a presentation on the health and wellness benefits of Forest Bathing (immersing yourself in the atmosphere of the forest), also known as Shinrin-Yoku in Japanese. He will cover a brief history of Shinrin-Yoku and its history in Japan, explain the health benefits of this practice and share his personal 9-year journey. Josh
works as an Environmental Specialist for the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources at Promised Land State Park. Refreshments will be served.

The Cresco Station Museum: The society has regular programs at the Cresco Station Museum. From Memorial Day to Columbus Day, there is a monthly performance by local musicians and an Ice Cream Social. The museum is also the site of an Art's and Craft's Exhibit on the second Sunday of each month. Local Artists and Crafters display and sell their work. Exhibits change periodically.
Regular Meeting and Programs:
The Society has a monthly meeting which is held the third Friday of each month at 7:00 pm at the Friendly Community Center. From November to March the meetings will be held at 2:00 PM. Following a short business meeting, a scheduled speaker covers some aspect of local history. The June meeting is a field trip to a place of historical importance, the location is usually within one hour drive.
